S/4HANA

S/4HANA: Quick Summary

  • SAP S/4HANA is a new product, not the legal successor of SAP ERP/SAP Business Suite products

Only SAP S/4HANA solutions are allowed to run on an SAP S/4HANA installation

  • Certain SAP ERP/SAP Business Suite solutions are able to run on a SAP S/4HANA

Enabled by using “Compatibility Packs” (CPs)

A CP is an S/4HANA compatible copy of a “classic” = SAP Business Suite software product (e.g. ECC WM)

Compatibility Packs are only required for solutions which are installed on the SAP S/4HANA instance –not for side-by-side installations

On December 31, 2025, the right to use CPs will expire. At that time, CPs must not be run any longer

SAP aims to replace these classic solutions by the end of 2025 with a genuine S/4HANA solution

  • Running a classic SAP ERP solution side-by-side with SAP S/4HANA does not require a Compatibility Pack

Beyond 2025, SAP ERP/SAP Business Suite products can still connect to S/4HANA using side-by-side approach

S/4HANA On-Premise offers 2 Approaches to EWM:

Decentral and Embedded

Embedded EWM

Decentral EWM and embedded EWM are planned to cover the same business scenarios & processes with only minor exceptions

Approaches can be mixed to support different operational models

EWM embedded offers simplified data model, no CIF/RFC integration required

EWM decentral offered as “side-by-side” approach only
